Conference Announcemenet: Impact and achievements of IEE bioenergy projects

April 29th, 2014 | Posted by jmaras in Events - (Comments Off on Conference Announcemenet: Impact and achievements of IEE bioenergy projects)

Conference Announcement:
Impact and achievements of IEE bioenergy projects
22 May 2014 | Crowne Plaza, rue Gineste 3 | 1210 Brussels

Bioenergy will play a crucial role in achieving the renewable energy targets by 2020. It is expected to account for more than 50% of the renewable energy consumption in Europe. However, the production and consumption of sustainable bioenergy in any of its forms (solid, gaseous and liquid), is still facing non-technological barriers that are impeding its large scale market uptake in most EU Member States.

The bioenergy projects which have been co-financed by the Intelligent Energy – Europe II (IEE) programme (2007-2013) aimed at supporting initiatives addressing such non-technological barriers by triggering and accompanying the concrete implementation of local supply chains of the most sustainable solid biomass, biogas & bio-methane and liquid biofuels resources. They have also supported the implementation of strategic actions aiming at contributing to the achievement of the 2020 targets and setting strategies in the bioenergy field beyond 2020.
The conference will present the impact achieved by the projects funded under the IEE programme as well as the final results of the 8 solid biomass and biogas projects coming to an end in 2014. Representatives from DG ENER and DG AGRI will provide an update on the latest developments in the energy and agricultural EU policies in relation to bioenergy.

International Workshop: BiogasHeat – Increasing the efficiency of biogas

February 24th, 2014 | Posted by Ilze Dzene in Events | News - (Comments Off on International Workshop: BiogasHeat – Increasing the efficiency of biogas)

Biogas is an interesting and growing energy resource, fulfilling two main criteria for modern resources: Biogas is domestic and renewable. However, the most biogas installations have so far concentrated on electricity production and ignored the surplus heat. This way the resource was not used in the most efficient way and an additional source of income for the producers has been neglected.

On behalf of the BiogasHeat project consortium, we would like to inform you that the workshop ‘BiogasHeat – Increasing the efficiency of biogas’, took place in the framework of the 5th AEBIOM European Bioenergy Conference 2014 in Brussels on 12 May 2014.

The BiogasHeat project aims at identifying heat utilisation strategies, defining business opportunities and sharing the gathered experiences.

Accordingly, during this workshop following topics were covered:

–  heat utilisation options for biogas facilities
– discussions on the market and political framework conditions
– sharing of utilisation strategies and business models
– presentations of business plans and opportunities

This workshop was the first event in a row of activities to equip plant operators, planners, heat consumers, urban and spatial planners, regional authorities and others with the knowledge needed to utilise the surplus heat and increase the efficiency of biogas plants.

BiogasHeat National workshop in Latvia was organised on 20 November 2013 in Riga

November 11th, 2013 | Posted by Ilze Dzene in Events | News - (Comments Off on BiogasHeat National workshop in Latvia was organised on 20 November 2013 in Riga)

20 November 2013 in Riga, Radisson Blu Rīdzene Hotel confrence room „Kronvalds”, Ekodoma organized BiogasHeat 1st National Workshop in Latvia.  Energy experts, biogas plant operators and representatives from different public and private companies participated in the BiogasHeat project national workshop in Latvia – 45 participants in total.

Workshop was divided into two parts. The morning session started with three introductory presentations about importance of efficient heat use, issues addressed by BiogasHeat project and overview on general solutions of heat use from biogas plant. Second part of the workshop – afternoon presentations was dedicated to demonstration of already existing good practice biogas use examples in Latvia. Presenters were three biogas plant owners and operators. Three different heat use solutions (greenhouses, heat to district heating system and heat use for drying) were presented and discussed.
